TTSI upgraded and replaced a Vision
Voucher tracking system running on an IBM AS/400 minicomputer for the City of
Baltimore, Department of Personnel. Originally data was entered into the
system daily and the application was run in batch mode periodically so that
output could be transferred via an FTP process to other department mainframe
computers. Several IT departments were involved in the process. The process was
slow and getting reports took weeks. The system also had to be shut down
during production hours in order for the batch process to be invoked. The application was rewritten in MS Access to an
Y2K- compliant Windows NT platform. Scripts were written for all of the file
transfer jobs so that the file transfer process could be done automatically
and external department mainframe systems could get data from this system
anytime with very little human intervention. This eliminated work for several
departments. The MS Access application was also designed to run in
“real-time” so that transactions are current and the system is up and running
24 X 7. Critical production hours are not lost and the system is always
available to users.
